Many people don’t even consider molding in the bathroom. However, it is one of the least expensive and most attractive upgrades for the room. Molding makes a room look finished and elegant.
While some people are happy with plain white paint as long as it is mildew resistant, you can do so much more. What about painting a stripe around the room near the ceiling to create faux crown moulding? Painting a mural can really open up the space and make it inviting.
Adding a shower curtain and rod with a theme instead of that boring white standard curtain and plastic rod can really make a room look finished. This is a quick fix that almost anyone can do. In fact, since few people leave their shower curtains behind when they move, you probably already bought a new one.
Of course, it makes sense to maintain your bathroom, both from a practical and a decorative perspective. After all, a few cracked tiles in the shower can cause you to have leaks and mold damage as well as looking ugly. Luckily, replacing one or two broken tiles is a fairly easy fix, if a bit time consuming.
Another thing you should do to spruce up your bathroom is a good drain cleaning. It may be an icky task, but it really can make your bathroom a nicer place to be. Your water will drain so much more quickly when all of that hair, rust and other gunk is out of the way. Even better, any odor from stagnant water pooling up in places you can’t see should disappear, since the water won’t be trapped by debris anymore.
When the whole room is updated, cleaned and maintained, it is time to take a last look around the space. Think about ways to make the bathroom seem bigger and more spacious. There are so many great new organization products for these rooms, such as shelving and under the vanity racks. A few carefully positioned mirrors can make the space seem larger, as can smaller, oval rugs.
So, take some time to decorate your bathroom and next time your guests come, it may be the space you show off first!
