Odor Control News & Commentary

This morning began as most Saturday mornings. My son had already left for work at the bank by the time I got up and my husband was just putting on the coffee. Despite the fact that I don’t drink coffee, I love the way it smells.

The sun was shining and a cool breeze was blowing the curtains. That’s when I smelled the acrid odor of something buring across the road at the metal recycling business that recently moved into the neighborhood. They were burning out a car, I think. Smelled like plastic. Lots of smoke. Whatever it was, it was drifting directly into our house and burning our eyes.

Of course, this was not the first nasty, toxic, mystery fire to send clouds of choking smoke and fumes into my house. So my husband and I debated whether to go over and ask them to put out the fire, or call the sheriff. We opted for the sheriff, who called the volunteer fire department in our township. Needless to say, the fire was out in 20 or 30 minutes. The recyclying guys told the fire department that it was a transmission fire!

I have a feeling we are going to have problems with this outfit. I think I’d better put the EPA on speed dial!
